I had a similar problem on my c350 cdi, and the garage diagnosed it as a faulty exhaust sensor, replaced it and the cable and all was OK. Interestingly they said the cable connector was badly oiled, and the month previous the red turbo seal failed, causing oil to leak a tad. Like others have said best to get it plugged in and diagnosed.
